South African social media influencer Mandisi Tshingana has been helpful to a lot of celebrities and reality TV stars who have been down and out or in need of financial assistance online by raising funds for them with the help of netizens; however, recently, many people have been questioning his credibility and transparency.
On Friday, 29 August 2025, many Twitter (X) critics have been suspicious of Mandisi's move after he announced on social media that he was able to raise R40K for the burial of the late actress Mam'Nandi Nyembe, who passed away on Saturday, 23 August 2025, at the age of 75.
This wasn't Mandisi's first fundraising campaign, as he previously raised R50K for actress Brenda Ngxoli in January 2025, but the online news and gossip page MDNews posted about the speculations netizens had about him actually telling them the correct amount that has been raised or that he is slipping some of it for himself.

Netizens accuse Mandisi of being a scammer in the making
Many netizens flooded the comment section, raising questions about Mandisi's actions, while others accused him of being a scammer in the making as people are starting to trust him.
Here's what they had to say below:
@BoogieHarrySA said:
"I suspect he might be skimming a portion of the funds, as the donations go directly to his account. If you all contribute R60k, he could potentially pocket 20k for himself and give the rest."
@GiftGrezelda wrote:
"Even if it wasn't a scam I don't think he gives them all the money donated."
@THULIIIIIIIIII commented:
"Can we see the money that was raised? What raises eyebrows is why the money is being deposited into his personal account."
@MashaRostovv responded:
"As good as it may seem, I feel like these donations are now being made for attention-seeking purposes. The family should apply to the government through the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture for a state funeral, given Nandi Nyembe's contribution to the entertainment industry."
@Mazibuko_Lusiba replied:
"Why is he using his personal account? Why not a family member's account like Chris and others did, yooh! Opportunist at its best."
