Briefly News asked financial expert Fulufhelani Mashapha how social media backlash and public opinion can affect a media personality’s long-term career and financial stability. She said:
"While some media personalities recover through rebranding, public apologies, or shifting into niche markets, others experience long-term income loss.
Maintaining professionalism, rebuilding trust, and aligning with positive, value-driven projects are essential for restoring financial stability and relevance in the industry."
South Africans comment on Sol Phenduka's exit from Kaya FM
@MzamoDudula asked Sizwe Dhlomo:
"Aren’t you worried, Sizwe? Management can spin it quickly, suddenly, you’re 'too sympathetic' to Sol, and the next memo says we can pay three people with your salary. That’s how they justify targeting you under the sweet label of a cost-saving drive."
@TeeTouchza wrote:
"From what Unathi said, it's clear you have a lot of influence in that station. Why couldn't you stop them then? Unless you do not influence at all."
@LubhaZa wrote:
"It's not unfortunate, but unfair dismal, call it what it is. Don't be afraid of those racists running Kaya FM with apartheid fear."
@blacticAM replied:
"And one thing about Sol, he is gonna be alright."
@KhayaMaloni commented:
"You are nearing 40, guys. It gets to a point where you can't be losing 7-figure annual salaries because your co-host with a one-track mind can't help but say inappropriate, derogatory things about women's body parts. Khulani, (grow up)."
@LubhaZa said to Sizwe:
"You might not see, but this is a personal assault against you and Kaya FM's management. You are the target, Sol is collateral."
@SIYA_VS said:
"It's a horrible decision @KayaON959. Without Sol's edge, there's nothing unique about #SizTheWorld. It was literally a perfect balance between @SizweDhlomo and Sol for the morning radio. Now I have to find a new home."
