South African author Jackie Phamotse has tuned into the highly anticipated Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is testifying as a key witness.
Reacting to the hearing with a Twitter (X) post on 17 September 2025, Phamotse noted how Mkhwanazi brought his own bottled water to the hearing.
According to the author of The Tea Merchant, someone should neither feel comfortable nor safe when engaging with higher-ups in the state, as they cannot be trusted:
"General Mkhwanazi brought his own bottle of water! You can never be too safe. Trust no one! The state is the enemy!"

This comes after Mkhwanazi's damning claims about corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system, where he implicated top police officials and government ministers in organised crime on 6 July.

He is expected to shed more light on his allegations before the Commission, and like Jackie Phamotse, social media users are tuned in to learn more about the alleged rot in the criminal justice system.
