Two of South Africa's most recognisable female vocalists have crossed genre lines in a bold new direction. MaWhoo and Lwah Ndlunkulu have officially released their joint Maskandi album, Isithembu as Zulu Queens. The 15-track project plants both artists firmly in one of South Africa's most culturally rooted music traditions.

MaWhoo carved out her lane as an Amapiano vocalist, building a loyal following through solo work and high-profile collaborations within the genre. Lwah Ndlunkulu, on the other hand, established herself as an Afro-Pop powerhouse, collaborating across a wide stretch of the local music landscape. While both singers had previously dipped into Maskandi through individual guest appearances and features, Isithembu goes much further by dedicating an entire body of work to the genre.

Feza, Izingane Zoma, Mthandeni SK, who previously featured MaWhoo twice on his songs, Siya Ntuli, and Litshepe Lr all contribute to the release, giving Isithembu a broad, communal feel that reflects the genre's emphasis on storytelling and tradition.

The album's title itself is drawn from Zulu language and culture, which sits in natural alignment with Maskandi's Zulu roots and reinforces the project's cultural intention.
