Thulani Mtsweni is embracing every inch of his iconic look, and he has no plans to change it anytime soon.
The seasoned South African actor, who recently landed a role on Uzalo, has credited his half-bald head and beard with giving his career the boost it needed, and in an interview with Daily Sun on 2 September 2026, he explained exactly why.
The 39-year-old recalled arriving at auditions early in his career with a clean-shaven face and head, only to leave empty-handed time after time. Once he put the razor down for good, however, the roles started rolling in.
"People don't easily forget me because of my baldness and beard."

Mtsweni noted that his distinctive appearance made him stand out in a crowded industry, giving casting directors a face they could not overlook. He did leave one door open, though, admitting he would consider shaving for the right price if a top-paying role demanded it.
Mtsweni's big break came in 2017 when he joined the cast of the beloved drama series Isidingo, playing the role of Bhekizizwe Sibiya. That role set him on a path that led to appearances in Isibaya, Black Gold, and Gomora, where he worked alongside award-winning actress Sannah Mchunu, cementing his status as a familiar face on South African television.
He also stars in a comedic TikTok series, Malume noMshana, alongside Big Brother Mzansi season five winner, Sweet Guluva.

Thulani Mtsweni's first lead role in a feature film
His latest milestone marks a new chapter entirely. Mtsweni was recently cast as the lead in Chris Q Radebe's independent feature film Shut Up, Men Are Talking!, a first for him in the film space after years of booking television dramas and sitcoms.
He expressed genuine gratitude towards Radebe, a respected actor and television scriptwriter, for the opportunity.
"Many people have not seen me in a movie, and if he hadn't given me this opportunity, people wouldn't have seen this side of my acting."
The film has since aired on DStv channel 113's MovieRoom, giving South African audiences a fresh look at what the actor is capable of beyond the small screen.
