South African musician Umafikizolo found himself at the centre of an unexpected social media frenzy after a Facebook post about a car accident left fans convinced something terrible had happened to him recently.
The award-winning Uyoncengwa Unyoko singer quickly moved to set the record straight, explaining that the incident actually took place in July and that he had walked away without a scratch.
The confusion snowballed rapidly once the post went live. Fans flooded his phone with calls, fearing the worst, and the panic showed no signs of slowing down. By Wednesday, 2 September, the hitmaker felt he had no choice but to take the post down, hoping to stop the spread of misinformation.
Why Umafikizolo deleted the post
Speaking to Daily Sun, the singer explained what prompted him to pull the update. "After I noticed people were misunderstanding my update and my cellphone was flooded with calls, I decided to delete the post. But it was too late," he said.

The timing of the original post, shared long after the July accident, seemed to be the root of the confusion. Supporters assumed he was sharing breaking news about a fresh incident rather than a belated update about something that had already passed.

His message to fans
Umafikizolo used the moment to appeal directly to those who follow him closely. "I'd like to ask my fans to stay calm and read my updates properly when I post. My aim was not to shock them - it was to give them an update that I was involved in a car accident and that I'm unharmed," he said.
The musician also revealed that his Toyota Fortuner was damaged in the July crash. Because he came out of it unscathed, he said he plans to work hard towards replacing the vehicle.
