Podcast and Chill co-host Sol Phenduka has broken his silence on the arrest of suspended deputy police commissioner Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, raising pointed questions about what may have gone undetected during the senior officer's long tenure in law enforcement. His post has since drawn a wave of responses from South Africans who share his unease.

"I wonder what Sibiya may have gotten away with over all these years while enjoying power within the police service. What ugly stuff could come to light?" Sol wrote on X on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.

What are the charges against Shadrack Sibiya?

The 59-year-old appeared briefly at a court north-west of Johannesburg after being arrested on Monday by members of the Commissions Recommendations Task Team (CRTT). He faces charges of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026, as well as the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman at a Sandton hotel in May. A trafficking charge has also been laid, which authorities have indicated could lead to further arrests.

Prosecutors are expected to oppose his bail application when Sibiya returns to court on 29 September. Adding to the severity of the situation, the state has asked that the court transfer him to a different prison after reports emerged suggesting a potential escape plan had been hatched.

Sol Phenduka apologises for joke about missing woman

Meanwhile, Briefly News previously reported that Sol Phenduka released a video apology after making a joke during a Podcast and Chill episode about a woman who was missing at the time.

The woman's body was later discovered in Kimpton Park, turning what seemed like banter into a deeply distasteful moment.
