GAUTENG — KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has personally engaged with the families of two alleged victims at the centre of a sexual offences case involving a senior South African Police Service official.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the meeting on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, stating that Mkhwanazi assured both families of the SAPS's full support and that all information would be handled with strict confidentiality until the matter goes to trial.
In addition to the commissioner's visit, SAPS has organised psychosocial experts to provide support to both victims and their families throughout the process.

Senior officer arrested at Sandton club
The allegations involve the sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August, as well as the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman.
The accused, a 59-year-old police officer, was taken into custody on Monday at a Sandton club. He was expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday to face charges related to sexual offences.
Brigadier Mathe said the case was assigned to the commission recommendations task team given its sensitive nature.
"It's a highly sensitive matter that involves a minor, and you are not talking about any police officer; you are talking about a high-ranking officer," she said.
South Africans remain sceptical
The case drew significant public reaction online, with many social media users questioning the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

Serial rapist arrested in KZN
In a related article, a suspected serial rapist arrested by KwaZulu-Natal police in connection with the alleged rape of 14 women across several provinces.
Briefly News reported that the 36-year-old suspect was reportedly arrested after previously being released on bail and failing to return to court.
The man was arrested on Sunday, 20 September 2026, in the Ncotshane area of Nongoma, after ten years since his first arrest.
