Ngizwe Mchunu's First Wife Says She Feels Like a Widow on Amabhinca

Siphelele Nxumalo-Mchunu has laid bare the pain of being married to South African podcaster and activist Ngizwe Mchunu, telling him on national television that she feels more like a widow than a wife.

The confrontation played out on Amabhinca, a Mzansi Magic reality show that follows Ngizwe and his co-star Phakelumthakathi. Siphelele, who is Ngizwe's first wife, used the platform to address what she described as years of emotional abandonment.

Siphelele's heartbreaking confession

Siphelele told Ngizwe plainly that he is a hero to strangers while leaving his own family to fend for themselves. "He spends less time at home. He's unavailable and unreachable on his phone when we need him," she said, adding that she has resorted to taking anti-depression medication just to cope with his constant absence.

She appealed to him to show up, not just as a public figure championing workers' rights, cultural traditions, and the fight against illegal immigration, but as a father and husband behind closed doors. Her frustration went further when she revealed that it is Ngizwe's extended family, not the man himself, who helps raise their sons and support her day-to-day. "I feel like a widow," she admitted, disclosing that she has only ridden in his car three times and routinely cannot get hold of him when she needs him.

Ngizwe blames jealousy

Rather than acknowledging her concerns, Ngizwe pushed back by accusing Siphelele of struggling to accept the realities of a polygamous household. "She wants to be the only wife, but that will never happen," he said.

He also attacked her parenting choices, claiming she had taken their youngest child to church without his consent and against his wishes, and that she spoils all of their children.

Ngizwe is known publicly for his outspoken advocacy work, which previously included ties to the March and March movement. His profile as a community voice stands in stark contrast to the picture Siphelele painted of life at home, where she says she carries the weight of the family largely on her own.
