Limpopo Boy is back in the spotlight, this time for an unexpected reason. Months after a private video scandal thrust him into the centre of South African social media conversations, the dancer and musician has landed a nomination at the 18th annual Feather Awards.
Robert Matome Thoka, as he is legally known, has been nominated for Drama Queen of the Year. The nominations were unveiled on Thursday, 1 October, at Constitution Hill in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The ceremony's theme this year is "The Signature Edition", with its focus on LGBTQIA+ excellence, visibility, creativity and allyship.

His co-nominees in the Drama Queen of the Year category are equally notable for their own controversies. Credo V Daniels, who faced questions about whether artificial intelligence was used to create his music, publicly insisted that he produced and sang every track himself. Doubts resurfaced after a live performance drew comparisons between his stage vocals and his recorded material. Mel Viljoen rounds out the trio. She and her husband Peet Viljoen drew attention after relocating to the United States as part of a group described as Afrikaner refugees, only to be deported and return to South Africa amid fraud allegations.
