South Africa's music industry is swinging for the biggest prize in music, with Tyla leading a multi-artist charge into the 2027 Grammy Awards campaign season.
The pop sensation is reportedly at the centre of what could be one of the most ambitious submission bids from a South African artist in recent memory. Her album APop and a string of individual tracks have been entered across more than 10 categories for consideration at the 69th Annual Grammy Awards.
Tyla's wide Grammy Net
The breadth of Tyla's submissions reflects just how much sonic ground she has covered. Chanel is among her key entries, with reported bids for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Music Video. That Girl is also in the running for Best Pop Solo Performance, while She Did It Again, her collaboration with Swedish artist Zara Larsson, has been entered for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

The entries stretch into dance and R&B territory too. Kiss is submitted for Best Dance Pop Recording, and Right Now is in contention for both Best R&B Solo Performance and Best R&B Song. On the African music front, two collaborations round out her campaign: I Don't Care featuring Babalwa M, and Memories featuring Lojay, both entered for Best African Music Performance.
Lira, TxC join the race
Veteran South African vocalist Lira is also part of the 2027 push. Her collaborative single Do Me with Chase Bell has reportedly been submitted for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, adding another seasoned voice to the country's Grammy campaign.
Amapiano duo TxC, made up of Tarryn and Clair, have set their sights on two categories with Nakupenda: Best African Music Performance and Song of the Year. It is a bold move that places the genre's infectious rhythm into direct competition with the world's biggest acts.
It is worth noting that a submission does not equal a nomination. These entries are part of the Recording Academy's first-round voting process, which runs from 12 to 22 October 2026. Official nominees will be confirmed on 16 November 2026, with final-round voting scheduled between 10 December 2026 and 7 January 2027.
The 69th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is set to take place in Los Angeles on 7 February 2027. For now, South African music fans will have to hold their breath until November.
