South African comedian and content creator Lasizwe has shared a positive update after publicly calling out vehicle tracking company Netstar for allegedly deducting money from his account without authorisation for years.
In an earlier post on X, Lasizwe said he sent countless emails and made repeated calls to cancel his Netstar policy, even received cancellation confirmation, yet the debit orders kept coming through under different names. He said the situation became so unbearable that he considered closing his bank account entirely to stop the deductions.
Netstar responds after viral post
Following the public callout, which drew widespread attention online, Netstar's team contacted Lasizwe directly. The company cancelled his policy and issued a full refund covering all the years he was incorrectly charged.

"I believe that if I can publicly call out a brand when something goes wrong, I should equally acknowledge them when they make things right," Lasizwe wrote on 16 October 2026. He added that he was "genuinely impressed by how quickly and proactively they handled the matter once it was brought to their attention."
He also encouraged his followers not to shy away from holding companies accountable, writing: "Your voice matters, and companies should be willing to listen, take responsibility and fix things when they get it wrong."

Mzansi peeps raise questions
While many applauded the resolution, several netizens were quick to point out that Lasizwe's fame likely played a significant role in the speed of the response.
@Da_Vince2 wrote:
"Lasizwe is a brand and is highly influential. They know that they may lose many clients because of their disgusting service. If it were Tebogo from Tembisa it would be a different response."
@ALentswe47881 echoed that sentiment:
"It's because you're Lasizwe. Dineo from Pimville wouldn't get the same treatment."
@crazythatoo pointed out an apparent contradiction in Lasizwe's update:
"Didn't you say you've been asking them for years?"
@IamTomTsibinki asked a similar question:
"In your initial tweet you said it has been YEARS requesting cancellation of your policy. How many years did it take them to cancel the policy?"
@Zd_prime was more pointed, writing:
"No, this is them just protecting their brand. Imagine people without your social status, who has limited reach. How many people cried under your TL about practices. What you need to condemn is you needing to post on Twitter before they responded after so many engagement."
