South African musical powerhouses Jesse Clegg and Msaki have come together to bring fans a collaboration they never knew they needed.
Born from an unlikely but profound creative bond, the pair's first single together, Wayside Lover, blends their unique yet powerful storytelling abilities into an emotionally-charged song about love and loss.
Jesse, son of the late musician and anti-apartheid activist Johnny Clegg, highlighted the key concepts of the collaboration:
"Wayside Lover embodies the emotional tension of facing tragedy and loss, but also finding connection in unexpected places. It also highlights the challenge of finding common ground as life pulls in different directions."

Released on 19 September 2025, the song features a surprise appearance by South African music juggernaut and actor Sjava, who lends his voice to bring the song together in a sonically rich way.
It forms part of Jesse and Msaki's joint EP, Entropy, which was written across Cape Town, Los Angeles, Johannesburg, and New York.

Speaking on their incredible collaboration with Sjava, the pair praised his unique ability to enrich the narrative of the song:
"Both of us have long admired his music and the profoundly unique space he holds in South African culture. His involvement unfolded in the most organic way.
"After hearing the early versions of the song in Jesse’s studio, he was moved to write a verse that responds to the tension between the two protagonists, adding a powerful new dimension to the story."
Without a scheduled release date for their project, Msaki and Clegg did reveal that they had a show lined up for October, and fans are looking forward to hearing more from them.
