A Zulu woman from Kamafuze, a small KZN village, has been on a 70-year purity journey. The lady opened up about how her 20-year marriage worked, even though she was a maiden.

Nigebni Ngoco explained the traditional practice for sexual education. She explained the cultural significance of sexual purity and why young people are encouraged to remain maidens.

According to TimesLive, 74-year-old Ngipheni Ngcobo remains a maiden, and she was married for 20 years, but the marriage ended. The Zulu woman shared that her culture allows ukusoma, when young people avoid unwanted pregnancies and STIs by satisfying their sexual needs without partaking fully. Maidens can remain pure until they are satisfied with a partner they are in a relationship with. Ngcobo said ukusoma was the normal way of life for her, and she was never interested in having full sexual relations.

After the breakdown of her marriage, she was not interested in other men despite receiving many proposals. Ngcobo continues to be a part of the Reed Dance ceremony with other maidens. She encourages young ladies to stay on their purity journeys and focus on their futures instead.
