The video quickly racked up over 29,000 views and thousands of comments as viewers were taken on a journey through every corner of the luxury house. What makes this home tour so special is that every single detail was personally chosen and designed by the couple themselves, making it a truly one-of-a-kind property.

Starting at the entrance, the L-shaped home welcomes visitors through glass doors leading to beautiful pine floors throughout. The dark grey walls create a modern backdrop for the couple's carefully selected furnishings and expensive black appliances. The kitchen steals the show with its long island topped with gorgeous porcelain stone, glass cupboards for displaying beautiful glassware, and a special downdraft extractor instead of a traditional overhead fan.

The dining area features a stunning built-in fish tank filled with goldfish and marine fish, while the lounge boasts a massive 9-seater couch from Ciello and beautiful coffee tables. Outside, the patio and braai area overlook a long pool, with plants that she proudly planted herself growing along the fence.

The bedrooms continue the luxury theme with push-to-open glass cupboards featuring LED lights, floating bedside tables, and custom mirrors. The master bedroom includes a walk-in closet for displaying designer clothing, while the main bathroom features a striking black bath, gold fixtures, and a stunning rain shower.

The process of building a home

According to experts at SA Bauhaus, the process of building a custom home like TikTok user @makeup.by.angeliq's requires careful planning and multiple steps. The journey starts with purchasing land and checking developer credentials, followed by obtaining necessary information like SG diagrams and title deeds.

Choosing the right architect is important for creating a well-designed home that's instantly worth more and better to live in. The process includes submitting plans to local councils, appointing structural engineers, and registering with the NHBRC. Building a custom home requires significant capital investment, with banks typically providing only 60% bonds for new plots, making personal savings vital for the project.

Speaking to Briefly News writer, Nerissa Naidoo, architectural technologist Kyle Moodley discussed the most common technical mistakes first-time custom home builders make during the design phase. He stated:

"As architects, design is not even the first process that is undertaken when constructing a building. Many make the mistake of thinking that it's as easy as just getting a plot of land and erecting a building. There is a lot of other research that has to go into it than meets the eye. First and foremost is a site analysis, which allows us to understand the topography, orientation, context around the site, external impacts and influences that can contribute to the design process."
"This helps us to understand the positioning of the building on the site, where the best lighting comes from, wind direction and drainage on the site to ensure no water problems occur. Site analysis also includes understanding municipal bylaws and codes to know what your site controls are. This informs what you can build on the plot of land, how big a building, how tall a building, the use of a building, etc. If the building being constructed isn't allowed according to these controls, it can cause delays and costs if the design doesn't meet local building regulations."

He also went on to say:

"A major issue that's noticed amongst new home builders is the amount of emphasis placed on the aesthetics of the building without focusing on the function of the building. This links back to another architectural concept of "Function over Form" or " Form follows Function", where a building's shape should be determined by its intended use rather than traditional architectural styles, as explained by architect Louis Sullivan. This was adopted by many modernist architects and designers to create functional and efficient spaces and structures without unnecessary ornamentation to enhance the aesthetics of the building. To create livable, humane spaces for people, focusing on functionality over the aesthetic appeal of a space."
"Not to say aesthetics should not be considered at all. But this is also related back to a client's budget and feasibility. Over-complicated designs and "fancy detailing" can lead to high costs, which end up leading to downgrading finishes and materials to save on costs during construction, and lead to the building's look changing due to this. These are some of the major areas overlooked by first-time home builders who try to design and construct a building without the proper knowledge and training, and not involving an architect in the process"
