A Nigerian man was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, over an alleged drug-dealing charge, and a video of the confrontation quickly spread across social media after it was shared on 9 August 2026.
The clip was posted by X user MoyaProf, a Cape Town-based X user and UCT, Wits, and MIT graduate. In the video, a police officer from Bangkok can be heard confronting the arrested man, saying he would not ignore what he was seeing.
The officer present told the suspect plainly that he had been stopped for drug dealing, warning him that denial would only worsen the outcome.
"If you deny and the evidence comes, it means you lied to me. After you lie, I will not be so forgiving," the officer said.

During the confrontation, a call came through from someone named Austin, identified as the suspect's brother, also from Nigeria. The moment appeared to add to the gravity of the situation.

What made the video particularly striking was what the man filming said towards the end. Speaking on the phone, he delivered an emotional statement that many viewers found deeply moving.
"I'm not proud to be a Nigerian. If I can change the reality, I'm not proud to be a Nigerian. What my people do here makes me sad too much."

West and Central Africa continue to face growing drug-related challenges, including the misuse of pharmaceutical opioids and dangerous drug mixtures.
