Prospective post-school students and current Grade 12 learners preparing for tertiary studies can now submit their bursary applications for the upcoming academic cycle. The application portal is for South African citizens and permanent residents who plan to study at public universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, or Community Education and Training (CET) institutions. Applicants whose combined annual household income does not exceed R350,000—or R600,000 for applicants living with disabilities—are eligible to apply for comprehensive bursary coverage.

NSFAS manages submissions through its online portal, which lets candidates complete their profiles, enter household financial details, and upload required identity and income documents from mobile devices or computers.

To ensure equitable access across under-resourced and rural regions, regional outreach drives are active across all nine provinces to assist applicants with digital account creation and document submission. Since its establishment, the NSFAS scheme has provided financial backing to over 5.5 million students across South Africa, with approximately 70% of current beneficiaries hailing from social-grant-dependent households.

Strictly enforced cut-off date to streamline 2027 academic processing

Applicants are encouraged to complete their online profile verifications well in advance of the deadline to avoid potential web traffic bottlenecks during the final days of the submission period.

The NSFAS application system will remain open until 23:59 on 31 October 2026. Scheme administrators emphasised that late submissions will not be processed under any circumstances to ensure all funding allocations are finalised ahead of the 2027 academic registration period.
