A TV reporter found herself at the center of a surprise proposal during what she thought was a routine assignment.

Valerie Bell from WBMA in Birmingham, Alabama, was rushing to cover a breaking news story near a lake.

However, her boyfriend, firefighter Blake Bjornson, used the chance to propose to her.

According to HuffPost, arriving at the scene, Valerie pulled up in her car and engaged in conversation with a police officer, oblivious to the romantic surprise lurking behind her.

As she turned around, she was greeted by the sight of Blake down on one knee, holding a ring in his hand.

In a video shared on social media, the journalist expressed her astonishment at the turn of events.

As reported by Deadline, she had initially believed that she was responding to a domestic violence incident, only to find herself at the center of her own personal fairytale.

"I'm just trying to process what just happened," she said in the clip.
"Oh my God! I thought there were kids in the water. That's so bad."

Taking to Twitter to share the news with her followers, Valerie wrote;

"How it all went down... Here I was, thinking I was going to breaking news @abc3340, but little did I know, it was all part of a massive collaborative plan to pull off one heck of a surprise. Can't wait to spend forever with you. I'm the luckiest girl."
