In the audio clip shared by @halaltyrone on TikTok, the man showcased a message that he sent to a girl on WhatsApp, where he invited the first-year student to his residence, explaining that because it was going to rain, they wouldn’t be able to go out. To make the date appealing, he added that he would order food so they could spend time together indoors.

The young woman, however, had other plans. She calmly and respectfully responded with the following voice note:

"Hey, I would really love to come, especially because this is like our first date. But I just remembered that tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of my great-grandmother’s passing, and we basically honour her by staying indoors the whole day, lighting up the candles on her picture and praying for her. So I can’t really come. But if ever there is a sunny day, feel free to ask again, I would love to go to a restaurant again."

Her elaborate explanation quickly caught the attention of social media users, who praised her for turning down the invitation in such a thoughtful yet humorous way. Some joked that she deserved an award for her storytelling, while others highlighted how gracefully she declined without sounding rude.

The clip went viral since it was published on 17 September 2025 on TikTok. The social media user @halaltyrone took to his caption, saying:
