A retired school teacher's ordinary shopping trip became an unforgettable experience when she was randomly chosen for a complete makeover by clothing brand representatives. The heartwarming transformation, shared on 10 August 2025, showed how a simple gesture can completely change someone's confidence and outlook.

The video began with an Ayana clothing brand representative approaching the woman, named Lida, in a local mall. Dressed in a casual sweater, scarf and jeans with slightly unkempt hair, Lida looked like any busy grandmother who prioritises others over herself. When offered a free makeover for Women's Month, her surprised "really?" response showed she hadn't expected such kindness.

The brand rep explained that Lida was a retired school teacher who keeps busy organising dances at retirement homes and spending time with her grandchildren. The styling challenge was to get her to try on dresses she had been eyeing but didn't think were age-appropriate anymore.

The transformation process showed the team selecting outfits, having lovely conversations with Lida, and giving her professional makeup. The reveal was breathtaking - Lida emerged in a stunning mustard yellow floor-length dress with long sleeves that perfectly suited her figure and age.

Looking good makes you feel better

According to Bridgette Raes, when you look good, you feel good, and that makes you do better. Research shows that clothing serves as self-expression, allowing people to convey personality and identity. When we wear outfits that make us feel attractive or put-together, it boosts self-esteem and reinforces positive self-image.

The concept of "enclothed cognition" proves that clothing can influence cognitive processes - wearing certain outfits can prime our minds to embody the characteristics associated with those clothes.
