PARLIAMENT, WESTERN CAPE — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) president, Julius Malema, demanded that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi be subpoenaed to appear before the Ad Hoc Committee established to investigate the allegations he made on 6 July 2025.

Malema requested a Parliamentary sitting on 10 September 2025. Mkhwanazi, who was supposed to appear before the Ad Hoc Committee as its first witness, said that he would not appear. He was committed to the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry for five days from 17 September. In a clip the EFF shared on its @EFFSouthAfrica X account, Malema expressed his disappointment.

Malema said that the decision not to subpoena Mkhwanazi was unreasonable and irrational.

"I know you are scared for Mkhwanazi to come and appear before that Committee. And if it was of your own making, Mkhwanazi was not going to appear before the Committee. You are playing with the public. You established a Committee, creating an impression that you're doing something when you're doing nothing," he said.

Malema said that other excuses will be made to prevent Mkhwanazi from appearing. He said an impression has been created to give the Commission of Inquiry greater authority than the Ad hoc Committee.

In a related article, Briefly News reported that radio host Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has called for a peaceful demonstration in support of Mkhwanazi on the day he is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Mkhwanazi is expected to appear on 17 September 2025.

Ndlozi called for South Africans to come in large numbers to Tahwane, where Mkhwanazi will appear. He said South Africans must demonstrate support for Mkhwanazi as a whistleblower.
