According to News24, Cele and Matlala had a meeting at the Zimbali Estate in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal, on 18 March 2025. The villa is owned by Maumela, who has ties to 21 companies that did business with Tembisa Hospital. The meeting happened a month before the South African Police Service (SAPS) cancelled Matlala's R360 million tender for health services.

News24 has WhatsApp messages in which Matlala received entry codes from Matlala for 18 March 2025. Matlala then sent the message to Cele and followed it with a location to the estate.

What did Bheki Cele say?

Cele confirmed that he had met Matlala at a house and was not aware of who owned the house. This was in stark contrast to Maumela's assertions that he was not part of the meeting, although Maumela admitted sending entry codes to Matlala, he distanced himself from the meeting and said that Matlala wanted to book a hotel for a football match in Durban.
