GAUTENG — Tshwane Member of the Mayoral Committee for Roads and Transport, Tlangi Mogale, has publicly challenged the sexism directed at her following online backlash over a video recorded at a weekend wedding in Limpopo.
Mogale deleted a TikTok clip that had been filmed at the wedding of ANC Youth League leader Collen Malatji and Tsholofelo Sekete. The footage showed Mogale and Malatji hugging, with Malatji kissing her on the cheek. After the video circulated widely, critics labelled her an "ANC stocko/slay queen" and alleged that her position in local government was obtained through her physical appearance rather than political merit.
Mogale responds on X
According to TimesLIVE, Mogale took to X to address the allegations directly. She explained that her relationship with Malatji and Sekete is one of family, having worked alongside Malatji politically for more than two decades. She noted that the two had even contested against each other for the ANCYL presidency, a fact she cited to counter claims that their relationship was anything other than a long-standing political and personal friendship.

A career defined by more than appearance
Mogale, who commented in March about traffic disruptions in her role as MMC, said the kind of criticism she faced was not new to her. Throughout her political journey in organisations including Sasco, the Young Communist League (YCL), and the ANC, she said she had repeatedly been undermined on the basis of how she looks. She argued that those who resort to sexualising her appearance do so precisely because they cannot mount credible challenges to her political work and record.
She credited guidance from a senior female leader, who advised her to focus on her own growth and perseverance in the face of such hostility. Mogale concluded that the struggle for gender equality remains far from over, describing it as an ongoing battle that women in public life continue to navigate.
