KWAZULU-NATAL – South Africans have shared mixed reactions online after the home and three vehicles belonging to Nomusa Dube-Ncube were destroyed in a fire.
The blaze broke out at the home of the former KwaZulu-Natal Premier at night on Sunday, 20 July 2025. It’s unclear at this stage what caused the devastating fire.
What was destroyed in the fire?
According to Sunday World, Dube-Ncube’s home in the suburb of Kloof in Durban was destroyed by the fire. Three of the former premier’s vehicles were also destroyed. The value of the assets lost in the blaze has not yet been disclosed. Thankfully, no one was hurt in the fire.

A source who spoke to Sunday World said that they didn’t know what caused the fire.
“What we know for now is that the entire home was burnt down, and her three cars, which were parked inside their garages, were burnt down,” the source said.
A video has since surfaced of the aftermath of the blaze.
Who is Dube-Ncube?
Born in KwaMashu, Dube-Ncube was the ninth Premier of KwaZulu-Natal. She took over the post in August 2022 following the resignation of Sihle Zikalala. She became the first woman to hold the post. Before that, she also served as the KZN Member of the Executive Committee (MEC) for Finance, as well as the KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs and the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA).
She is currently the Deputy Task Team Coordinator of the Provincial Task Team for the African National Congress in KZN (ANC). On Monday, 21 July 2025, she was also appointed as the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.

How did South Africans react?
Social media users shared mixed reactions to the news, with some showing sympathy, while others speculated that it was a targeted attempt to destroy evidence. Others speculated that it was done for the insurance.

Dube-Ncube appointed KZN Premier
In August 2022, KZN's Provincial Treasurer, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, was appointed as the province's next premier.
Briefly News reported that the decision was made after Sihle Zikalala resigned from the post.
South Africans congratulated Dube-Ncube, who made history by becoming the first woman premier in KZN.
