GAUTENG - Tiffany Meek will spend another weekend behind bars after her bail application was rolled over. The 31-year-old has been charged with the murder of her son, Jayden-Lee Meek.

The 11-year-old’s body was found outside his apartment at the Swazi Complex in Fleurhof on 14 May 2025, a day after he was reported missing.

Meek’s bail application began on 18 July 2025, a week after her arrest. It will now continue on 28 July at the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court.

Why was the matter rolled over?

Despite having started a week ago, the matter has dragged on due to the lengthy examination and cross-examination of the Investigating Officer (IO).

On Friday, 25 July 2025, Meek’s lawyer, Noven Naidoo, finished cross-examining the IO, Sergeant Nceba Diko, very late, leaving no time for closing arguments to take place. Closing arguments will now be delivered on 28 July, and the judge will rule whether Meek is granted bail or not.

The 31-year-old has furnished the court with an alternative address where she could reside if granted bail. The address, which is located in KwaZulu-Natal, will ensure she is safe from angry community members.

One of the reasons the State is opposing bail is due to the public outcry and her safety.

How did Friday’s proceedings play out?

During proceedings on Friday, 25 July 2025, Naidoo again attempted to discredit the police’s evidence and paint a narrative that Meek was being framed for the murder, as she claimed.

He claimed that there was no public outcry as police claimed, and that a petition demanding that she not be given bail was only created on the day it was mentioned in court and not the day before.

He alleged that a community activist was urging people to sign the petition and offering people free transport to court, because there was no public outcry to back up the claims.

Naidoo also alleged that the police did not find the schoolbag on the day they claimed to have first seen it, instead adding that there were numerous people in and out of the Meeks' flat following the murder who also didn’t spot any of the items that police found a day later.

There were once again demonstrations outside the courtroom, as community members demanded that the 31-year-old not get bail.
