President Ramaphosa Under Fire for Expressing Upset Over Return of 121 Police Dockets

Ramaphosa upset over 121 dockets

It is alleged that the South African president is upset with the lastest move by the national police commissioner. Ramaphosa reportedly wanted to know why the dockets was taken from the suspended police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya's office.

Ramaphosa reportedly reached out to Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia to express concerns over the timing of Masemola’s actions, particularly with a judicial commission of inquiry set to investigate the matter.

Ramaphosa consult Cachalia about dockets

Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson of the presidency, confirmed that President Ramaphosa spoke with Acting Minister of Police Cachalia. Magwenya said that the situation is not as simple as it seemed. He said that the matter is important for the commission as it is expected to investigate the matter.

Magwenya said that the President noted that this is not an ordinary administrative matter, as the dockets are now under investigation by the commission. He said Ramaphosa expects SAPS leadership to fully cooperate with the minister and the commission to protect the integrity of the work.

Interfering in police operations

General Mkhwanazi, accused the now-suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of interfering in police operations, including ordering the disbandment of the high-profile Political Killings Task Team and the removal of 121 dockets.

He also alleged that Mchunu and Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya protected individuals implicated in politically motivated crimes.
