52-Year-Old Man Dies After Ski Boat Capsizes at Breede River, Western Cape

A 52-year-old man has died after a ski boat capsized at the Breede River Mouth, Witsand. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 6 September 2025, in the Western Cape.

How did the incident occur?

Eyewitnesses reported the incident to the National Sea and Rescue Institute (NSRI). It is reported that four people were on the boat. The 52-year-old father, his two daughters and a male believed to be in his 30s were all rescued from the water.

The 52-year-old man was found unresponsive. All four were taken to the NSRI base, where a doctor performed CPR on the father. Attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful, and he was declared dead.

The other three individuals were not injured in the incident. Authorities are still searching for the boat. The body of the 52-year-old father was taken to the government health forensic pathology services.

  • A woman tragically drowned when she slipped into the raging water near the Uvongo Falls and was swept away by the current. The strong current and floating debris made rescue efforts impossible, and her body was not recovered.
  • A 38-year-old father drowned while trying to rescue his 11-year-old son at a beach on the south coast in KwaZulu-Natal. The man was declared dead by paramedics, and the child was transported to the hospital in a serious but stable condition.

In another article, Briefly News reported that a two-year-old boy had tragically drowned in a residential pool on Admiral Road, The Bluff, KwaZulu-Natal.

The youngster was found floating in the pool by neighbours, who pulled him out. South Africans expressed their sadness but also questioned where the parents were.
