GAUTENG – A manhunt has been launched for the suspects involved in the hit on the Gauteng National Taxi Alliance chairperson.
58-year-old Thamsanqa Sabelo Moyo was gunned down on Thursday, 18 September 2025. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, but police have not ruled out that it is related to violence within the taxi industry.

According to police, the Gauteng National Taxi Alliance chairperson was shot dead while travelling along the Soweto highway. The incident happened in Diepkloof, with police describing it as an ambush.
Police reports state that the suspects, who were driving in two vehicles, blocked Moyo’s car. They then fired multiple shots at him. Emergency services pronounced Moyo dead at the scene.
Gauteng Police Spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, has urged anyone with information to come forward.
“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Masondo urged.
National Taxi Alliance spokesperson shocked by the murder
Spokesperson for the National Taxi Alliance, Theo Malele, expressed shock at the murder. He said the organisation was unaware of the reason behind the murder, but was hopeful that the police would make arrests.

“We are expecting the police to get to the bottom of this and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book and face the might of the law,” Malele said.
He added that Moyo had plans to grow the association and take it to greater heights.
“He was outspoken, professional, and ensured peace within the organisation,” Malele stated.

South Africans share their thoughts on murder
Social media users weighed in on the murder, and while some showed little sympathy, others speculated about the reason.

“In the taxi business, you are digging your own grave.”
Martinus Pretorius stated:
“Dangerous job to be a taxi boss, yoh.”
Zakes Sithole suggested:
“They know each other very well. By next week, it will be payback time.”

“We know that this one is a targeted killing because taxi bosses have taken the law into their own hands.”

Taxi boss shot dead in Mpumalanga
Briefly News reported that Justice Dusty Madalane was shot several times at his business premises in Dwarsloop in November 2024.
Madalane was the National President of the Federated Long and Local Distance Taxi Association.
Community members who took to social media reacted in disbelief at the news as they paid tribute to Madalane.
