KWA-ZULU NATAL — A 47-year-old man allegedly set his mother's container home on fire in Oakford Village, KwaZulu-Natal, on the evening of Tuesday, 11 August 2026, after a dispute with his girlfriend.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Operations Centre received a call for assistance from local residents at approximately 19:08. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers spoke directly with the victim, a 66-year-old pensioner, who told them her son had been drunk when he quarrelled with his girlfriend before deliberately igniting the container dwelling and fleeing the area.
Home destroyed, suspect still at large
By the time officers reached the scene, the structure was completely engulfed in flames. Neighbours made efforts to douse the fire using water from a nearby JoJo tank, but the blaze could not be brought under control. The home was destroyed. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The suspect had not been apprehended at the time of the report.
