WESTERN CAPE - A taxi driver was fatally shot on the N2 highway near Gugulethu on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, after gunmen pursued him from a nearby informal settlement.

Driver suffering numerous gunshot wounds

Speaking about the incident, police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. The attackers fled without being apprehended.

"The motive for the attack is believed to be taxi violence related. Police are following all available leads, and no arrest has been made at this stage, Gwala said.
