GAUTENG – President Cyril Ramaphosa’s name has surfaced before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The Commission heard on Wednesday, 26 August 2026, that private forensic investigator and crime expert Calvin Rafadi had compiled documents and memos concerning President Cyril Ramaphosa's identity, including what was described as a confidential memo referencing multiple identity numbers linked to the head of state.
The testimony came from Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, who told the commission that Rafadi sent him various materials relating to several high-profile matters. Matlala said Rafadi appeared to be showcasing his investigative capabilities in sending the documents across.

Matlala forwarded docs without reading them
When questioned about his knowledge of the Ramaphosa-related investigation, Matlala was direct: he denied having any meaningful awareness of its contents.
Matlala confirmed that the material Rafadi forwarded to him was subsequently passed on to Major-General Lesetja Senona, the former head of the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks.
"I was just forwarding these things. I don't know anything about them," he said under questioning.
Asked whether he had reviewed the documents before passing them on, Matlala maintained that time constraints prevented him from doing so.
The document referenced during testimony was labelled "STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL" and displayed on screen during proceedings. Its subject line read: "Confidential information concerning the honourable identity of the President."
It contained personal details, including identity numbers attributed to President Ramaphosa.
