KWAZULU-NATAL — An eight-year-old boy required emergency surgery after two dogs attacked him and his father during a morning walk along Bramford Road in Sunford, northern Durban, on 30 August 2026. The incident happened over a month after pit bulls fatally attacked a 28-year-old woman in Durban.
According to IOL News, the two animals broke free from a nearby property and charged at the pair while they were walking through the Phoenix area. The father placed himself between his son and the dogs, suffering multiple bite wounds in the process.
Emergency response in Sunford
KZNVIP Medical Services attended the scene and transported both the father and the child to a local hospital. Owing to the severity of his injuries, the boy was subsequently transferred to a second facility where he underwent emergency surgery.

CCTV cameras in the area recorded the incident, with footage showing the dogs running out onto the street before engaging the pedestrians.
