South African content creator Anton Taylor reignited one of the country’s most beloved arguments. He posted a TikTok video on 19 July 2026 asking locals to weigh in on the CT vs Jozi debate, and Mzansi had plenty to say.

In the clip, Taylor stopped several people and asked them what sets the two cities apart. The answers were honest, funny, and deeply relatable.

One person summed it up neatly: “Jozi people are lovely, but Jozi is bad. Cape Town is lovely, but Cape Town people are bad.” Another defended Joburg’s pace, saying it is a “rush city” where people “just get things done,” while Cape Town is where you come to chill and vibe.

Cape Town’s beaches vs Joburg’s grind

Cape Town clearly had its fans among those interviewed. Several people pointed to the beaches, mountains, coffee shops, and the promenade as reasons to love the Mother City. One person also highlighted the lifestyle:

“Cape Town, I feel like there’s more of a work-life balance. I feel like Joburg is all about the hustle.”

Joburg’s defenders were not silent either. One interviewee on Taylor's video acknowledged that while Midrand offers little beyond a racetrack and indoor golf, Joburg has one undeniable edge: opportunities.

“Financially, that’s all I could say,” they concluded.

“There is actually tons to do in Jozi if you know where to go. I’d say even more than Cape Town, and you can have a meal too that doesn’t cost R1,000.”
