73-Year-Old Bredasdorp Woman Beaten to Death as Police Hunt for CCTV Clues

WESTERN CAPE - 73-year-old Mariette Mouton was killed in her Bredasdorp home in the Western Cape, and police are now pursuing multiple leads as they work to identify who was responsible.

According to News24, her husband, who was mowing the lawn outside at the time, discovered her body on 21 September 2026. When officers arrived, she had already died. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that Mouton was struck with a blunt object.

Thieves made off with several items from the home, including electronic devices, jewellery, a kitchen knife and garden tools.

CCTV footage shapes the investigation

Cape Agulhas Mayor Raymond Ross said police had briefed him on the progress of the case, noting that investigators were following every possible lead. A key part of that effort involves reviewing available CCTV footage from the area, which authorities hope will help establish a timeline and point to a suspect or suspects.

The motive for the attack has not yet been confirmed, and the full circumstances surrounding the killing remain under investigation.
