CCTV Clip and Blue VW Jetta Led Police to 3 Suspects in Robert Wolk Murder Within 24 Hours

A surveillance clip, a blue Volkswagen Jetta 5, and a coordinated multi-agency operation were central to the rapid arrest of three suspects in the murder of Formula Ford champion Robert Wolk, according to police.

Wolk, 41, was shot at an intersection in Esther Park on Wednesday 16 September 2026, shortly before he was due to fly to Cape Town to race at Killarney. An 18-second CCTV clip of the incident circulated widely online, showing him standing on a grass verge before an armed man approached and opened fire.
How police tracked the suspects
Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said officers acted on credible information and assembled a joint intelligence-driven operation that included the EMPD, the Northern Region Task Team, SAPS Crime Intelligence, and Blue Hawk Tactical personnel. The team intercepted all three suspects within 24 hours of the shooting.

The investigation led officers to multiple locations. One suspect was apprehended in Spartan, while the remaining two were arrested at the Enhlanzeni Hostel, where police also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the crime.

Firearm and linked cases
According to News24, one of the suspects subsequently directed officers to a property at Allandale Farm in Mayibuye, where a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition were recovered. Thepa confirmed the firearm is believed to have been used in Wolk's murder.
Investigators further established that the getaway vehicle was linked to two additional cases involving hijacking and murder. It has not yet been confirmed whether the three suspects will face charges in connection with those incidents.
The three accused face charges of possessing a suspected hijacked vehicle, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the trio is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday.
EMPD chief Isaac Mapiyeye commended the officers involved for their swift response. The City of Ekurhuleni issued a warning that it would not tolerate criminals using the municipality as a base of operations.
