WESTERN CAPE — Police in the Western Cape have announced a R100 000 cash reward for any information that leads to the successful prosecution of those responsible for a mass shooting at a shisanyama in Lwandle that claimed 10 lives.

The attack took place at KwaNdelu Shisanyama during the early hours of Sunday, 27 September 2026, when patrons had gathered at the venue. Ten people were killed in the shooting, with a number of others sustaining injuries serious enough to require hospitalisation.

Police appeal for public assistance

Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa confirmed that the reward was being made available to encourage members of the public to come forward with any details that could help investigators build a case against those responsible.

"The motive of the killing still remains subject to the investigation," Potelwa said.

Potelwa added that five of the injured survivors had since been discharged from hospital, while six others remained in care at the time of the update.

Investigators are continuing to work through the evidence gathered at the scene and have yet to establish what prompted the shooting. Police have urged anyone with relevant information to make contact with the authorities.

No arrests have been announced in connection with the attack, and the motive behind the killings has not been confirmed. Authorities indicated that determining the circumstances that led to the shooting remains a key focus of the ongoing probe.

The Lwandle attack is among the deadliest mass shootings to occur in the Western Cape in recent years. Police have not yet indicated when they expect to make further announcements regarding the investigation.
