Chivayo dies in helicopter crash

Chivayo, the head of Intratrek Zimbabwe, was killed on 30 September 2026 when a helicopter went down in the Marondera area of Zimbabwe. He was one of six people who died in the crash, among them his wife, Lucy Muteke. Zimbabwean authorities confirmed there were no survivors, and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

Chivayo was a prominent figure in Zimbabwean business circles and was widely recognised for his close ties to political and sporting figures across the region. He was a significant financial backer of Zimbabwean football, with Scottland FC publicly mourning his loss and describing him as far more than a sponsor. He had also publicly pledged support totalling US$1 million to Highlanders FC in Bulawayo.

McKenzie's Office approached for comment

McKenzie has served as South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture since 3 July 2024 and leads the Patriotic Alliance. His prominence in the South African government has drawn attention to the resurfaced image, given Chivayo's high-profile status in Zimbabwe.
