The visitors were the better side of the game, but they were made to pay for missing clear-cut chances, especially in the first half.

Crysencio Summerville came off the bench to break the deadlock and fire the home side in front in the 74th minute. Casemiro then finally took one of the numerous Manchester United's chances to draw the Red Devils' level seven minutes later.

West Ham's penalty vs Manchester United

The game's contentious moment came in the 87th minute when Matthijs De Ligt was adjudged to have fouled Danny Ings inside the area. Referee David Coote was referred to the monitor and gave the penalty, much to Ten Hag's frustration.

What Ten Hag said after West Ham defeat

Jarrod Bowen made no mistake from the spot to secure Julen Lopetegui's third Premier League win as Hammers boss.

"Three times this season, we feel injustice. Unfair and unjust the way we conceded the penalty. I spoke with the officials but decision is made. There's no way back. It has a big impact on our team and on our scores and where we are in the table,” said Ten Hag to BBC.

The defeat is now United's fourth of the season, leaving them 13th on the table with 11 points.
