CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced that the Confederation of African Football is on the verge of finalising a groundbreaking eight-year deal worth billions of Rands, aimed at transforming the future of African football.

The South African businessman made the announcement in Nairobi, Kenya, following the CAF Executive Committee meeting held on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

He also held discussions with the presidents of all 54 CAF member associations from across the African continent.

Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were present at the CHAN final, where South Africa was knocked out in the group phase.

CAF seals landmark R18 billion deal

According to News Note, the CAF president insists that the deal is going to bring new things to African football while emphasising the strong backing from CAF’s 54 member associations for the deal, which is expected to bring greater global exposure and long-term financial growth.

The deal covers the broadcast rights for Africa’s most prominent football events and it is said to be worth $1 billion, which is approximately R18 billion.

“This marks a defining chapter for African football,” said Motsepe.
“Our mission is to raise Africa’s football presence worldwide while strengthening grassroots development and domestic competitions across the continent.”

Since taking over as CAF president, Motsepe has introduced significant reforms and driven major developments in African football.

Briefly News also reported that Patrice Motsepe has urged Nigeria to bid for the FIFA World Cup, saying the country has the infrastructure and passion to host the number one football event in the world.

The Mamelodi Sundowns owner's call comes as Nigeria are looking forward to a potential bid for the 2038 edition of the competition.
