Former Orlando Pirates and Royal AM superfan Joy "Mama Joy" Chauke found herself at the centre of online jokes over the weekend after posting a video of herself seemingly dancing and cheering for Shauwn "MaMkhize" Mkhize's new football club, Mbabane Highlanders AM, in eSwatini.

Mkhize was unveiled in July as the President of the football club, following the demise of her South African football club, Royal AM, due to the R40 million owed to SARS.

After years of unwavering loyalty to Orlando Pirates, Mama Joy's sudden switch to Royal AM in 2021 had raised eyebrows, making her recent apparent exit from the club even more notable.

On her X account, she hinted at leaving Royal AM, and fans quickly noticed that her profile picture had changed from one of her in Royal AM regalia to a more personal image with her husband.

The clips and pictures posted over the weekend showed her expressing support for MaMkhize, echoing her sentiments from July when she threw her weight behind Shauwn Mkhize's new football club, Mbabane Highlanders AM.

Legal battles over Mbabane Highlanders ownership

Bheki Simelane, who previously owned the club, has reportedly approached the High Court of Eswatini claiming that he remains the rightful owner and was removed from his position unlawfully.

Meanwhile, Mkhize’s representatives maintain that the club’s ownership was formally transferred to her through the proper channels.

What caused Royal AM's collapse?

Briefly News reported that Shauwn Mkhize explained how a family trust linked to her dragged the club into financial turmoil.

In an interview with Andile Ncube, MaMkhize clarified what led to the SARS placing Royal AM under curatorship over an outstanding R40-million tax debt.
