New Kaizer Chiefs signing Khanyisa Mayo has narrated the reactions of his parents after he broke the news of joining the Glamour Boys this summer.

The Bafana Bafana forward is one of the over ten players who joined the Soweto giants this summer and will also join the long list of fathers and sons who have played for Amakhosi.

The 27-year-old was signed on a season-long loan from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad and hopes his performance will convince the Premier Soccer League giants to sign him to a permanent deal.

It has always been Mayo's dream to play for Kaizer Chiefs, as he wants to follow in his father's footsteps.

Mayo narrates parents' reaction to Chiefs' move

While speaking to the Kaizer Chiefs official website, Mayo confirmed that his parents were happy to hear about his move to the Soweto giants.

“I called my mother, who was with my father at the time, and they both burst into celebration. They were overjoyed that I would be following in my father’s footsteps and continuing the family legacy at the Club,” he told the team’s website.

The South African international admitted that stepping into a space his father once occupied does bring added pressure, but explained that it’s something he has grown up with and learned to embrace.

The former Cape Town City striker also sent a message to the Amakhosi faithful, outlining his ambitions for the campaign.

“My goal is to ensure the supporters enjoy a memorable season with me as part of the team,” he added.
“I’ll give everything to score goals, work hard, and contribute to the Club’s success, so we can create special memories together. Amakhosi 4 Life!”
