AmaZulu FC striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has been named the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for August after producing a remarkable run of form for the Durban club.
The 25-year-old Zimbabwean scored five goals and registered one assist in four matches during the month, according to the PSL, which announced the award on 8 September 2026 on its official X account.
Ngwenya’s goalscoring exploits have made him one of the standout attacking players in the early stages of the campaign.

Zimbabwe striker continues impressive rise
Ngwenya’s latest recognition comes after a steady progression from Zimbabwean football to the South African top flight. He joined AmaZulu from FC Platinum in July 2025 after establishing himself as one of the local game's promising forwards.
The striker has also represented Zimbabwe at senior level. He made his international debut in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda before finding the net twice at the 2025 COSAFA Cup.
That experience has now translated into an impressive spell in the Betway Premiership, with his August performances earning him the league’s top individual award for the month.
The monthly honours also went to Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who was named Coach of the Month, while Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Brayan Leon claimed Goal of the Month.
For Ngwenya, however, four appearances, five goals and one assist provided the numbers behind a memorable August..
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s apology after Sihle Nduli injury
Briefly News previously reported that in August, Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya found himself at the centre of attention after an incident involving Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli.
Ngwenya later addressed the injury directly, expressing regret and insisting that the challenge was not intentional. His response came after Nduli was stretchered off during the 1-1 league draw.
