Pitso Mosimane believes Bafana Bafana have enough quality and experience to beat Guinea when the sides meet in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday, 26 September.
South Africa will host Guinea at Orlando Stadium as Mosimane begins his latest competitive campaign in charge of the national team. The coach said Bafana have prepared for the challenge and understand the strengths of their opponents.

According to SABC News, Mosimane said:
“Guinea, they have a top striker who plays for Borussia Dortmund, he’s a top striker, top number nine big boy so we have to make sure that we deal with his aerial strength.”

That striker is Guinea international Serhou Guirassy, who remains with Borussia Dortmund.
Bafana face experienced Guinea squad
Mosimane is also aware of Guinea's players operating in European leagues. However, he believes South Africa can match that experience through the players representing Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
“Centre back – the other one is in Poland. He’s playing in Girona. So, you know those West African teams,” Mosimane said.
“But if our Sundowns and Pirates players could show that they are Champions, I think it’s encouraging.”
Bafana are ranked 54th in the world, while Guinea are 81st, although the previous three meetings have produced one South African victory, one draw and one defeat.
Tshepang Moremi receives late Bafana call-up
Bafana Bafana have been forced to tweak their squad ahead of Saturday’s AFCON 2027 qualifier, with Orlando Pirates winger Tshepang Moremi drafted in following Lebohang Maboe’s injury withdrawal.
The Guinea clash also carries added significance in Group D. Kenya have already secured an automatic place at the 2027 tournament as one of the co-hosts, meaning the remaining teams are competing for the group’s other qualification spot.
That leaves South Africa with little margin for error as they begin their campaign. Mosimane has nevertheless indicated that Bafana have prepared for the challenge and are confident they can deal with what Guinea bring to Orlando Stadium.
Miguel Cardoso backs Pitso Mosimane ahead of Bafana Bafana Clash
