Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Keletso Makgalwa has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs made a genuine attempt to sign him, but the Soweto club's approach came too late to secure his services.

The 29-year-old had attracted widespread attention following a productive spell at Sekhukhune United, where he registered nine assists in 34 competitive appearances last season. Several local sides registered interest, but it was Tanzanian outfit Simba SC who ultimately won the race for his signature.

Timing Cost Chiefs the Deal

Speaking to FARPost, Makgalwa clarified that his decision to move to Tanzania was not a rejection of Amakhosi's offer. He explained that by the time Chiefs formalised their interest, he had already committed to a different path.

"Yes, Chiefs were one of the teams that were interested [in my services]," said Makgalwa. "It was a good offer from them, but I wanted to play elsewhere outside South Africa. That's why I chose Simba SC. I didn't really decline the offer."

He added that the timing of Chiefs' approach played a decisive role. "They came late, to be honest. I had a conversation with my agent [Ntobatsi Masegela] and Kaizer [Motaung Jr]. They were busy finalising their squad, and Simba came, you know. So, I was like let me just go to Simba."

Amakhosi Dream Not Abandoned

Despite choosing Tanzania, Makgalwa was candid about the emotional pull Kaizer Chiefs still holds for him. Growing up in Mokopane, representing Amakhosi was always part of his aspirations.

"It is still a dream for me because, as a young boy from Mokopane, it was one of my dreams to play for Kaizer Chiefs," he said. "So, I think if that move comes, I will take it. But for now, I am focused on Simba, helping them to win the league and do well in the [CAF] Champions League."

His immediate priority at Simba SC includes competing in the CAF Champions League, giving Makgalwa an opportunity to raise his profile on the continent before any future transfer discussions resume.
