- The Springboks are set to face Argentina this Saturday in their final home Test of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship, with the tournament still wide open
- Rassie Erasmus has named a largely familiar squad, including some returning veterans, for the Durban clash
- While the Pumas are expected to be tough opponents, the Springboks insist they are prepared for what’s ahead
The Springboks will take on Argentina this Saturday, 27 September 2025, in the penultimate Castle Lager Rugby Championship fixture of the season, which will also be their final home Test of the year.
This year’s tournament, potentially the last in its current format before being replaced by the tours format, has gone down to the wire, with no clear champion emerging ahead of the final two rounds.

On Tuesday, 23 September, head coach Rassie Erasmus announced the squad to play Los Pumas in Durban. Most of the players from the historic 43-10 victory over the All Blacks on 13 September in Wellington were retained.
Siya Kolisi will captain the side as he will also play in his 97th Test match. Erasmus also included veterans Eben Etzebeth and Damian Willemse.

Experienced lineup key for Springboks
Erasmus said they were very pleased with how the team had risen to the challenge against the All Blacks. He added that, considering Argentina’s strengths, this lineup would be the best for the upcoming match.
He explained that the team’s composition allows for consistency in selection and ensures that the experience of Eben and Damian de Allende is present in the starting lineup. Both players are reportedly excited to return to the field.

Bench strength gives Boks tactical flexibility
Erasmus also highlighted the versatility on the bench, with Jan-Hendrik able to cover both prop and hooker positions. This gives Boan another opportunity to play alongside Morne, adding depth and tactical flexibility for the team.
The coach emphasised the importance of the match for both teams. He pointed out that Argentina had beaten New Zealand and Australia in the first four rounds of the competition, as well as the British & Irish Lions earlier in the season, and would be treated with the respect they deserve.

Erasmus added that the Pumas had made significant progress in recent seasons and, under coach Felipe Contepomi, would be fully prepared to challenge the Springboks. With a strong forward pack and talented backs, the Pumas pose threats across the field.

Boks ready for the challenge
Despite the challenge ahead, Erasmus said the Springboks were prepared.
“We’ve had a good few training sessions since assembling last Thursday, and the players know what they’ll be up against,” he said.
