Siya Kolisi says being forced to watch the Springboks from the sidelines was frustrating as he prepares to make his long-awaited return against Argentina on Saturday, 8 August. The captain will play his first Test of 2026 after missing South Africa's three Nations Championship matches in July and expects a stern examination in Buenos Aires.

Siya Kolisi ready to make his mark again

According to the Springboks website, Kolisi said the lay-off had tested his patience, although he was encouraged by the way the squad maintained its standards in his absence.

"It's been tough watching from the sideline, but there's a couple of us getting an opportunity now," Kolisi said.

Rather than focusing on his comeback, the captain said the returning players were determined to contribute to the team's momentum.

"It's a tough place to come and play, but that's exactly what we need as a group," he added.

Argentina clash offers immediate challenge

Kolisi said South Africa expected another fierce battle against Los Pumas, pointing to Argentina's recent performances and the intimidating atmosphere created by their supporters.

Assistant coach Mzwandile Stick echoed that view, saying:

"If you don't turn up physically and mentally, you'll bring their crowd into the game."

Experienced Springboks back for Buenos Aires Test

Kolisi is one of five experienced players returning from injury, alongside Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Morne van den Berg.

The Rugby Championship encounter kicks off at 21:10 (SA time) on Saturday at Estadio José Amalfitani, with the Springboks aiming to make a winning start to Kolisi's return to Test rugby.
