While Germany is famous for having no speed limits on some stretches of its motorway, a millionaire may have irked authorities after hitting top speeds.

Radim Passer, from the Czech Republic, is under investigation after appearing to hit 417km/h in a Bugatti Chiron.

BBC reports that the prosecutor’s office launched a probe into the potentially illegal incident, and if convicted, Passer could face up to two years in jail or a hefty fine.

Passer’s video goes viral

The millionaire brought attention to the incident after sharing a video speeding between Berlin and Hanover on YouTube. In the video, the car's speedometer indicates a speed of up to 417km/h. Passer said that the drive happened early on a Sunday morning in a message below the video.

"There was visibility along the whole stretch. Safety was a priority, so the circumstances had to be safe to go,” he wrote in part.

German’s transport minister condemned the incident, noting that while there is no speed limit in Germany, the car should always be under control.

Bugatti releases statement

Passer’s publicised run prompted the French carmaker to distance themselves from the incident.

“Bugatti is aware of the video of a Bugatti Chiron being driven at high speed on a German highway. However, due to the possible investigation being conducted by the public prosecutor, we do not wish to comment on or anticipate any further assessments regarding the incident referred to,” a statement by the carmaker read in part.

The Chiron is one of the fastest hypercars in the world, boasting 1,500 horsepower, and can accelerate from a standstill to 100km/h in just over two seconds.

The Chiron has a 420km/h top speed, according to Bugatti.

Snake climbs on car's bonnet

In other news, Briefly News reported that a video of a snake pursuing a Land Rover recently surfaced online.

The serpent went after the vehicle, prompting a terrified man to exit the vehicle and run.

Online users reacted by questioning the logic of running out of the vehicle saying the man would have been safer inside.
