Requirements of joining the South African Air Force
The Airforce Military Skills Development programme is a two-year voluntary service system. Recruits are required to sign up for a period of two years, during which they will receive military training and further functional training. How do I join the South African military force? - Must be a South African Citizen (Relinquish any other citizenship).
- Proof of criminal records by the Criminal Record Bureau for verification
- Not area bound
- Preferably single

- Not having physical disabilities or fear of heights
- Compulsory psychometric test with proof
- Aged between 18 to 22
- Comply with all the directions required for appointment in the SANDF
- Recommendation by the selection board

Additional requirements for Engineering
Applicants must have completed Grade 12 with full matriculation exemption, with Mathematics and Physical Science minimum HG C figures or equivalent. On the completion of their academic studies, these members will be allowed to apply their experiences in the Engineering environment for the remaining months of their contract.
Additional requirements for apprentice training
Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science as a passed subject or N3 with two languages on the Grade 12 level as passed subjects.
a. Grade 12 Certificate/N3 Certificate
- Two (2) languages, i.e. English compulsory and language of choice (GGE) 40%
- Mathematics and Physical Science (GGE) 40%
- 18-22 years of age
b. Tertiary Qualification
- N4-N6 Certificate in a technical field
- Two (2) languages, ie. English compulsory and language of choice (GGE) 40%

3. Submit your following documents with your application form:

- A copy of your grade 12 certificate
