When Michael was ten years old, he made a commercial for British Columbia Hydro. Two years later, he made a guest appearance as Ari on the King of Kensington TV series. When he was 16 years old, Mike became the guest star of The Littlest Hobo TV series Season 1 Episode 10 titled "Boy On Wheels."
After high school, Mike joined a touring firm known as The Second City Canadian prior to moving to the United Kingdom. In 1985, he co-established The Comedy Store Players group at The Comedy Store, London.
