Isuzu has recalled thousands of D-Max bakkies sold in South Africa and eight other African countries after a brake pedal defect was identified in recently manufactured models.
The National Consumer Commission confirmed that 2,586 vehicles are affected. The recall covers single cab, double cab and extended cab D-Max models built between 11 May and 3 July 2026.
What the brake pedal fault does
According to IOL News, the problem is a loose brake pedal pin. When pressure is applied, the pedal can slide sideways instead of travelling straight down, giving the driver a false sense of full braking effort. The result is a longer stopping distance, which is a serious risk in everyday driving.

The same bakkie models were sold in Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, eSwatini, Uganda and Zambia. Isuzu is offering the repair at no cost to owners.

South African owners who purchased a D-Max within that production window should take their vehicle to an authorised Isuzu dealer.
